Review citat:
The Series 300 Mk2 sparked plenty of debate with an ability to create an expectant sound, full of anticipation and tension, drama and vitality
Most listeners felt this was an inherently musical and communicative amplifier with broadly a involving and warm sound
Nevertheless it seems that this is not your archetypal lush-sounding valve amplifier but one that extends its grasp into the furthest reaches of treble, pulling out the finest percussive detail from a broad and delightfully airy acoustic
capable of realising an open and captivatingly expressive sound
Hi-Fi Choice, August 1991 - Recommended
High power output is not one of the big plus points. A strong sense of musical rhythm or beat most certainly is. So too is crisp definition of cymbals, piano, plucked bass, drums and the like
It can certainly weave an intricate picture of complex music
The layers and textures of sound revealed by the Series 300 Mk2 are a level ahead of most comparable transistor amps
Partner it with a good, smooth CD player or a vibrant rich sounding turntable making sure that your speakers are capable of making the most of the amplifiers power output and youll have the recipe for a very satisfying sound
What Hi-Fi, September 1991
Rhythmic and timing information was positively delivered and the music flowed well. Subtle detail was exposed easily, lending voices and instruments real character and solidity. Many associate valve amps with woolly bass sound, but thats a ting of the past the Series 300 handles bass guitar and kick drums with authority and control, despite its relatively modest power output
Classical music of all types but particularly small-scale works seemed to be this amps forte. Instruments were richly described, with a fine purity of timbre evident, and its recreation of recorded acoustics was excellent, adding atmosphere and a sense of occasion to musical performances. The sense of individuality and space around instruments pervaded all sorts of music, giving the amps portrayal of music an engaging aura of human warmth and credibility
therell be no more transistor amps if you audition this one!
